The answer is not simple, However it does hover around three questions.

  1) does you vehicle have factory theft protection ?

  2) if so what kind ?

  3) how much transmitter range do you want ?

Hi.  Welcome to another Johnson Automotive video.   Yeah, that’s right; in this on we are going to be talking about Cell Phone Remote Start. That’s right, I know for a long time I haven’t really talked about them or sold them, or anything like that.  But that reason was because I felt like they were too expensive and because the network that they used was AT&T. And around here in Fairbury, anyone who has ever had AT&T, knows, yeah, there is no signal.  Yeah, No.  So they changed and they are now using a Verizon Network and they also cut the price in half.  So, I went ahead and installed one in my truck, did some testing around, have had excellent results with it.  Everywhere I want to start my truck it starts right up.  All I gotta do is choose the style of remote I want, as far as the look goes and then get logged in.  After, of course, you have me install it. And then it is all ready to go.  The first 90 days you get FREE.  So then you can unlock your door, unlock your door, start it, hit the trunk, sound off the alarm and wake up your neighbors, and there is a couple extra axillary features if we need to set something up special for you. Sends you all kinds of confirmations that what you asked it to do, it did.  Has a status button.  For a small extra, we can even add a temperature probe inside your car, so that you can know how warm or cold your car is. So you get up.  It’s 2 degrees outside.  Hit the remote start.  You get ready to leave.  Wait a minute—How warm is it in my vehicle?—Oh, good it is 85 degrees, so I can go ahead and get in my vehicle.  Or, Hey,” it’s only 78—maybe I want to wait a few more minutes”.  Or maybe it’s the summer time and it’s like 2 million degrees and your interior is melting! So you cool it off.  Turn your air conditioner on.  Look in there.  “Oh, man, it’s a nice 60 degrees in there.  OK, we can go ahead and get in the car now”.  Real convenient.  Anywhere in the world.  You can be in Florida and start your car in Illinois.  I recommend to people, if you don’t have to buy an extra remote, you just have to have the cell phone set up.  But if you want, I can even, if you want, sink your factory remote, even though it’s only got lock out, we can turn that into a feature that will remote start your car for you.   But, I also have a testimonial of another good customer of mine. 1)      Use of scotch locks, butt connectors, and other connectors
2)      Use of a weak car battery or alternator
3)      Low hanging wiring
4)      Improper sealing of connections
5)      Improper maintenance of vehicle
6)    Leaving wiper on, they may engage and be damage if frozen or blocked
7)    Improper setting of heater controls
8)    Other wiring in poor condition or in need of repair
9)    Operating in an enclosed environment

10)  Cheap poor quality units

People often ask me “will this remote start affect my new car warranty?"

The simple answer is no, the detailed answer is the following:

Many consumers are confused regarding the installation and service of third party accessories for their vehicles. This confusion often is the result of incorrect information intended to convince you that only the manufacturer or authorized dealer should service your vehicle. What does the law provide?

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is Federal Law enacted in 1975 establishing warranty requirements.  The Act provides that: “Warranties, written or implied, cannot be conditioned on the consumer’s use of any article or service identified by brand, trade, or corporate name.” This prohibition against conditioning warranties on the use of authorized items or services can only be waived by the Federal Trade Commission if 2 specific factors are found  

#1 - The Federal Trade Commission is satisfied that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used and

#2 - The Federal Trade Commission finds it is in the public interest.

The Federal Trade Commission in determining what is in the public interest seeks and accepts comments from the public. What does this mean to you?

Purchasing and having accessories installed in your vehicle does not void your warranty unless the manufacturer has been able to convince the Federal Trade Commission that the installation and/or service will cause a malfunction to the vehicle and the restriction is in the public interest. These are difficult tests to meet, especially since the public is economically and technologically ahead through third party accessory options.

If your manufacturer or dealer tells you that your warranty is void or able to be voided due to third party accessories or service, ask him for the Federal Trade Commission determination supporting the claim. You may even want to call the FTC yourself.

This overview was written by our corporate attorney after research into the Magnuson-Moss Warranty act.  It is an explanation of the law in plain English so that our customers may understand their rights.

Hi.  Welcome to Johnson Automotive.  We are not only your complete auto repair center but we also do accessories like remote starts .  Custom built, the way you want it.  Come on back, I’ll show you how a remote process starts.  Here we are going to go ahead and do an inspection on the vehicle .  Do a visual and do a little bit of testing  on it as far as testing the battery and the alternator  system.  Just kinda looking for the body damage,  scratches  also be sure everything works right.  HVAC works right.  Make sure you got good heat, good air conditioning , no check engine lights, and no tire pressure monitoring lights on.  Just kinda looking all around to see for some potential issues that the customer may need to be aware of.   OK, we are just going to get started here doing some prep on pre-wiring  process .  Of course here, like all other quality installations, we soder our wires, simply because you never have to worry about it coming loose or breaking because essentially it is like almost welding the wire together.   And with all the movement of a vehicle coming  down the road you definitely don’t want to have connections making contact and breaking contact .  That’s a good way to have a customer, an unhappy customer come back.  Alright, we’ve got the installation all done.  And has you can see all neat and clean.  No wires hanging down, no mess.  Here we have affordable options for everyone.  This one is just a single button remote start.  Does a good job. Gets you in a nice warm or in the summer time, a nice cool car.  Gets your windshield defrosted with your wipers without any effort.  So basically, the way these work.  Very simple.  Hold down for about two seconds, deliberate push, you can tell if it runs.  It runs for about 15 minutes, you can get a few extra minutes just by hitting the remote one extra time, you will hear some relays click and then it will engage.  If for some reason, you decide, oh, wait, I don’t need to leave now, I’ll leave in an hour.  Hold it down for about 5 seconds to 10 seconds and you kill it, and that is out.  So, simple, easy to use and inexpensive option.  We also, I mean, if you got the money, we got the product.  As much as you want to spend, we have customized options that will solve your needs.  Thanks for watching and we will hope to see you  soon with your own customized installation from Johnson Automotive.
